Sri Lanka has reached a significant milestone in its legal landscape with the appointment of the country’s inaugural Senior Instructing Attorneys-at-Law, recognizing their outstanding contributions to the legal profession.
The Honourable President of Sri Lanka, in accordance with the provisions of the Conferring the Honour of Senior Instructing Attorneys-at-Law Act, No. 26 of 2023, has appointed five distinguished legal professionals as the first Senior Instructing Attorneys-at-Law in the nation’s history. This historic announcement underscores a new era in Sri Lanka’s legal system.
The appointed Senior Instructing Attorneys-at-Law are:
- Dr. Jayanta Mootatamby Swaminathan
- Mr. Deva Manoharan Swaminathan
- Mr. Gerard Gnanavarothayam Arulpragasam
- Ms. Habaragamuwa Ralalage Anoma Dilanie Peiris Goonetilleke
- Ms. Shiranthi Nelum Manik Gunawardena
This prestigious honor, bestowed on May 2, 2024, signifies the exceptional achievements and dedication of these legal professionals. The Secretary to the President, E. M. S. B. The Gazette notification (No. 2383/30) issued on May 8, 2024, formally confirms and acknowledges the appointment of these Senior Instructing Attorneys-at-Law.
